KnowUk
KnowUk is an online service developed to provide UK reference information. It is the most comprehensive resource of its kind, offering a complete library of UK information.
NewsUK
NewsUK is an online service developed to provide national and regional news, combining the most popular British newspaper titles in one database.
Times Digital Archive and Nineteenth Century Regional Newspapers
Researchers can search through the complete digital edition of the The Times from 1785 to 1985, using keyword searching to retrieve full facsimile pages of either a specific article or a complete page. The entire newspaper is captured, with all articles, advertisements and illustrations and photos divided into categories for easier searching.
We now have an annual subscription to the Gale/Cengage database of 19th Century Newspapers. There is access to it via every People’s Network computer in the service. There is also a facility for remote access at home if you have a Newcastle library ticket. The database includes three northern titles; The Newcastle Courant (Daily and Weekly), The Northern Liberator and the Northern Echo. It also includes a wide range of regional and some national titles, for example, The Illustrated Police News. If you are interested in family history or general historical research we think you will find this database useful and easy to use.
Peoples Network Enquire Service
Enquire instantly connects you to library staff trained to help you find answers to your questions. Enquire is the only national service of its kind that is delivered around the clock.
It offers a live question and answer service available 24 hours a day, every day. Helping people to find information is what libraries do. You can ask absolutely anything, and library staff will help you to find the answer.
Please note: You probably won't speak to someone from our library service as many libraries take part in delivering Enquire.
