These offices provide Your Homes Newcastle residents with a variety of functions and services including estate management and the reporting and monitoring of repairs to properties.

The ward contains six primary schools:

  • St Anthony’s C of E
  • St Vincent’s RC
  • Tyneview

  • West Walker
  • Wharrier Street Primary

Other community facilities include Walker Library on Welbeck Road which offers a number of community learning facilities and services, and The Walker Centre, a Customer Service Centre in Walker which was opened in June 2005.

Also in the ward is Walker Park which was laid out in 1888 on about twenty acres of farmland. Facilities in the park include two bowling greens open to the public with a pavilion for ladies and men’s clubs. There are two tennis and basketball courts which are able to be used for five-a-side football. A fenced younger children’s equipped play area sits alongside an older children’s equipped play area. Play equipment consists of swings, slides, climbing units and a sandpit. There is also the Walker Park Play Centre. The Centre organises children’s activities five days a week. The park has two designated football pitches, which are used by local football clubs for their league games. Walker Park has a small open-air amphitheatre, which is used for the annual samba music festival and other music events.

Walker ward is in the east end of the city on the banks of the river. It was amalgamated with the old Monkchester Ward in the Ward Boundary review in July 2004. Geographically, Walker riverside can be defined as being the area near the south east fringe of the city, stretching along the banks of the Tyne, South of Walker Road, East of Allendale Road and ending at Welbeck Road, bordering on the Walkergate ward.
