Local information about Fenham

In Fenham ward, tenants of Your Homes Newcastle have access to Fenham Community Housing Office which provides and supports a variety of functions including the reporting and monitoring of repairs.

Fenham has two primary schools; Sacred Heart RC Primary and Stocksfield Avenue Primary. The ward also has Sacred Heart RC High Upper School and West Gate Community College. As well as being a school for 11-18 year olds West Gate Community College Complex is also home to a Community Learning Centre and a Sports Centre. The Community Learning Centre offers a range of educational opportunities for pupils and adults. The wide range of facilities includes a computer suite, a multi media theatre, a cyber café, a community area and educational courses. The Sports Centre offers a sports hall, a health suite, a dance studio and fitness classes. Additionally it has eight badminton courts, nine artificial turf 5-a-side pitches, two 7-a-side pitches and a full size hockey pitch.  The centre is the largest and newest in the city and was funded by Sports Lottery funding. It is the base for many local sports teams and clubs.

Fenham Library on Fenham Hall Drive and the nearby Denton Burn Library both offer computers with free internet access, a children’s library, music Cd's and black and white photocopying facilities. Fenham Library hosts surgeries for local councillors and is the meeting place of the Fenham Local History Society.

Numerous groups and activities are held at Fenham Association of Residents on Acanthus Avenue and at Denton Burn Community Association on Slatyford Lane, the two Community Associations in the ward. Activities, projects and training initiatives for children and young people aged between 5 and 24 are also held at Slatyford Youth Centre, Bowness Road. The Youth Centre has a number of football pitches that are available for hire to outside organisations.

King George V field and Denton Dene North offer playing fields and open green space for local residents.

The Fenham ward boundary starts at the A1/Stamfordham Road roundabout. From here the boundary heads southwest down the West Road. It continues east along West Road and turns north into Hoyle Avenue then east into Hadrian Road. It then heads east along Hadrian Road then northwest up Gowland Avenue. It continues north behind the properties on Bolbeck Road onto Fenham Hall Drive. From here the boundary turns west into Netherby Drive to Silver Lonnen where it heads northwest before turning left along Slatyford Lane. The boundary runs northwards before the bus depot on to Stamfordham Road then heads northwest back to the A1 roundabout.
