In Elswick tenants of Your Homes Newcastle have access to a number of Community Housing Offices (CHO) which provide and support a variety of functions, including the collection of rent and other payments and the reporting and monitoring of repairs. These Housing Offices are North Benwell CHO, Elswick CHO and Cruddas Park CHO.
Elswick ward has one nursery school, Cruddas Park Early Years Centre. It has two primary schools; St Michaels RC and Canning Street. It has Trinity School, Oakfield Site. Trinity School caters for pupils aged between 7 and 16 years old who have emotional and behavioural difficulties. It has some residential facilities. Newcastle College is also situated in this ward.
Residents of Elswick have access to Cruddas Park Library and Benwell Library. Both libraries offer computers with free access to the internet, a children’s library and music cd's. Cruddas Park Library is on Park Road and is within the Elswick ward boundary. Benwell Library is on Atkinson Road and is within the Benwell & Scotswood ward boundary.
Elswick Park and Pool offer a range of sports and leisure facilities including swimming, fitness machines, tennis courts and 5-a-side all weather pitches.
The Elswick ward boundary starts at the junction of Westgate Road and Elswick Road. It heads west along Westgate Road and West Road then on to Pendower Hall School. The boundary then heads south along the rear of the properties on Denhill Park to Westholme Gardens. It continues along Oakfield Gardens and along the allotment gardens to Benwell Lane. From Benwell Lane the boundary continues east onto Adelaide Terrace then south along St John’s Road to the Buddle Road roundabout. It then continues to the west of St Johns Walk and Joseph Close. It follows Scotswood Road west to William Armstrong Drive and continues down to the River Tyne and along to the Redheugh Bridge. It follows the Bridge north onto St James’ Boulevard and the junction with Westmorland Road where it heads west to Elswick Park. The boundary heads north on Elswick Road and then back to the start at Westgate Road.
