Castle ward is in the north of the city and borders the neighbouring authorities of North Tyneside Metropolitan Borough Council and Northumberland County Council, and incorporates the villages of Brunswick, Dinnington and Hazlerigg.
The ward contains a number of community play areas in each of the villages and Kingston Park. There is also a library at Dinnington which shares premises with the Primary Care Trust (PCT), a satellite of the practice in Ponteland.
Each of the villages and Kingston Park has community facilities of varying standards.
The local Neighbourhood Housing Office for Your Homes Newcastle tenants is in Gosforth on the High Street. This office provides support and a variety of functions including the reporting and monitoring of repairs.
The ward includes two schools, Dinnington First School and Kingston Park Primary. Both have nurseries. Dinnington School feeds into the Gosforth school system while Kingston Park School feeds into the Kenton school system.
Castle is home to Ouseburn Country Park and has three allotment sites at Coach Lane Hazlerigg, Walter Street Brunswick and at Strawberry Terrace.
The boundary of Castle Ward starts at the intersection of the A1/ Coach Lane and heads west along Coach Lane to Wynd Street. It continues north along Wynd Street and along the footpath leading onto Hawthorn Avenue. It continues to the rear of the properties on Brookside Avenue past the Church of St Cuthbert and the properties on Cragside back to the A1. The boundary continues north along the A1 to Shotton Grange (as existing ward boundary) and along the existing Castle/Woolsington ward boundary to the A696 Woolsington Bypass. It then travels southeast along the A696 to the A1 interchange and finally follows the A1 north, turning east on the A1056 and then north between the A1 and B1318 where it rejoins Coach Lane.
