Health Through Warmth

Health Through Warmth (HTW) was established by npower in 2000 in partnership with the NHS and NEA to help tackle the issue of fuel poverty, associated cold related illnesses and excess winter deaths by facilitating the installation of energy efficiency measures and heating where they are most needed.

HTW has been established in Newcastle since July 2003 and and is one of 12 UK cities involved in the scheme. Newcastle's HTW partnership comprises Newcastle Primary Care Trust, Newcastle City Council, NEA and npower.

Health Through Warmth aims to:-

  • work in partnership to improve the health and living conditions of the more vulnerable people in local communities
  • identify these people through existing key workers in the local community
  • provide the best possible measures, help and advice appropriate to the household’s needs
  • monitor, measure and report progress

In Newcastle, the project has assisted 2544 clients and trained 664 key workers (to 29th February 2008).
