Online applications for the September 2012 intake opens on 1 September 2011

Before you apply you must read the admissions guidance and admission policies for each school you are interested in and think about how this applies to your child. This is to make sure you understand the admissions process and make an informed choice.

Closing dates

• First and primary school admissions is 15 January 2012
• Middle, secondary and high school admissions is 31 October 2011

Starting nursery school

Children will generally be admitted to nursery school or nursery class the September after their third birthday.  You will need to contact the school directly, click here for further information.

Post 16 admissions

Entry requirements and courses are available from individual schools. Read post-16 admissions for further details.

In year transfers

In year applications are when you apply to transfer your child from one school to another, for example if you move out of the area. Click here if you need to apply for an in year transfer  (either primary or secondary).

Do you need help understanding the admissions process?

Visit your local Customer Service Centre for advice or help with the admissions process, or make an appointment with the Families Information Service.

Appeals

Unfortunately, it is not always possible to offer your child a place in your preferred school. If we are unable to offer any of your preferences, you will be offered an alternative school place. You will be offered the right of appeal if a place is refused. See appeals, complaints and mediation.

If you are appealing against a decision in an academy or voluntary aided school, you will need to contact the school for information on their appeals procedure.
